Keyboard Shortcuts for Annotator

You can use your keyboard to work faster with Annotator. These shortcuts help you highlight, write, and navigate without needing to use your mouse for every click.

Action Shortcut Notes
Create Highlight h Create a new Highlight at the selected text
Create Annotation a Create a new Annotation at the selected text
Show anchored annotations s Moves focus to the annotation Card in the Sidebar to show which annotations are anchored to the currently selected text
Show/hide highlights ctrl + shift + h Turns the highlights over selected text on and off
Search / Moves focus to the search field in sidebar
Post annotation ctrl + enter (Windows) or cmd + enter (Mac) Current focus must be in edit window
Load new updates l Shortcut is only active when the sidebar is in focus, and there are new annotations posted but not yet shown. This will be announced via the screen reader (if used), and indicated by the appearance of a “new annotations available” icon at the top of the sidebar.
Close the Hypothesis Adder escape Works when the Adder is open and the user does not want to select “Annotate” or “Highlight”.
