Citing Notes from Annotator

What Information Should I Include?

To make sure your citation is clear, try to include these five things:

  1. The Author’s Name: Their full name (if you can see it).

  2. Their Username: Their specific Annotator screen name.

  3. The Date: When the note was written.

  4. The Note Content: Use the first 20 words of the note.

  5. The Link: The specific web address for that note.

How to get the link: Look at the bottom-right corner of the note card and click the Share icon. This will give you a “Direct Link” you can copy.

Examples of How to Format It

Depending on the style your teacher or editor prefers, here is how you can set it up:

Chicago Style

  • The Pattern: Last Name, First Name (Username). Year. “First 20 words.” Annotator note, Month Day, Year. URL.

  • Example: Smith, Jane (jsmith22). 2026. “This paragraph perfectly explains why the atmosphere traps heat near the surface.” Annotator note, January 15, 2026. https://ann.is/sample-link
